Approach 2 Atlanta
Some recommendations for someone who has never been!
I have lived in Atlanta for almost two years now! Which is crazy! In some ways it feels like we just got here and in other ways feels like we have lived here way longer. I wanted to pull together some Atlanta favorites we have been able to try since moving here. This is in no way a deep cut list for Atlanta locals, but think of it more as a “Morgan’s Atlanta favorites” to reference if you ever happen to visit my corner of the South.
Restaurants / To Eat
Ruby’s Sourdough Pizza - too good + order the $8 large salad.
Lil Rey - Favorite tacos & salad - also the hibiscus drink is a must.
Das BBQ - favorite classic smoked bbq + southern sides
Hattie B’s Chicken - chain fried chicken, has been my favorite so far of them all
Mister 01 - all italian pizza chefs - thought the crust was unique and tasty
Hearth Tavern - salad of my dreams - imagine the best new york italian sandwich you have ever had but it is a salad somehow???
Alon’s - pastries & fresh sandwiches
Ria’s Bluebird - named best pancakes in the area. I was so hungry when we went I don’t even remember but it was good.
Little Tart - most famous bakery in Atlanta. sourdough pizza is served on Friday’s only and is so delicious. They use a lot of earthy flavors and I swoon.
Zakia - Modern Lebanese, we went here on our first weekend in Atlanta and still think about it
Fred’s Meat & Breads @ Krog Market - get the Korean style philly cheesesteak w gochujang sauce.
Star Provisions - yummy breakfast items with a pretty eating space.
Shops
The Merchant at Krog Market - pretty kitchen items, gifts, cards!
Goodwill - unlike the West - Have never had a bad run honestly
The Clothing Warehouse at Little Five Point
Film store also at Little Five Points - film in jars - enough said!
Nature/Parks (in order)
Cauble Park - just discovered this - feels like you are in a small lakeside town but so close to everything. Has a lake with a small beach and a walking trail and dock. I am obsessed.
Morgan Falls Overlook Park - my favorite park. A little north of Atlanta itself, but overlooks the water, has bench swings, a playground, and sitting grassy space.
Grant Park - wins the “most charming” award, good walking loop and right by the Atlanta Zoo
Silver Comet trail - goes on for 60+ miles so it is good for biking. Yet to bike it but we love it.
Rottenwood Creek Trail / Chattahoochee River trail - closest to my house and has a place in my heart
Roswell Riverwalk Boardwalk - good for an evening stroll
Piedmont Park - same designer as Central Park and you feel it. So stunning!
Chastain Park - pretty suburbia energy, but is fun to walk around near the stables and nice houses
Vickery creek trail - waterfall at the end of this hike
Experiences/Events
Mercedes Benz Stadium - we have loved going to so many sporting events here, but also everything in the concessions is under $10!
Film spots - so many movies/shows were filmed here. We have seen people filming, scouted Stranger Things spots, and also so many Marvel movies (if you are into that), also when you are thrifting you can sometimes find clothes that have Warner Brothers tags on them.
Aquarium - So incredible! There is only one whale shark now :( His friend died last year which was sad. But Yushan lives on! He was rescued from a Taiwanese seafood market.
Museum of art - I really enjoy the layout of this museum - similar to Guggenheim but with some off-stretching wings.
Carter Center + Farmer’s Market - Long live Jimmy Carter for real. I loved learning more about his legacy and have always admired his platform to improve public health. He basically led the eradication of Guinea worm. Love that man. Also the best farmer’s market every Saturday.
Ponce City Market - Think Pike Place Market with less fish and more shopping. The beltline also cuts behind it, which is a walking path that goes through a lot of the city.
You can do all this while listening to the Atlanta Millionares Club album by Faye Webster and eating a “pubsub” (Sandwich from Publix). Or do none of it, and I will continue to enjoy.
